LAHORE: Pakistan Railways (PR) has announced that the department is going to install WiFi hotspots at all divisional level railway stations and in all passenger trains as hotspots will provide fast internet connectivity to passengers free of cost under its new digitisation policy.
The introduction of WiFi in trains and railway stations is underway and many trains have already been equipped with the Wifi facility, the sources said.
PR has taken several other steps too, including online ticketing, setting up of high-tech web gadgetry and teleconferencing facility at all divisional level railway stations.
A couple of years ago, PR had started WiFi facility to one of its business-class trains and now the same service had been working in Green Line Train.
E-ticketing facility is successfully working with the help of private partners and now passengers are able to use credit or debit card and mobile banking for booking their ticket.
PR sends an SMS e-ticket containing ticket number, train date and time, coach and seat numbers besides passenger’s national identity card number.
The sources said that more facilities would also be introduced for passengers which would be chalked out one by one in future.
