LAHORE: The Tourism Development Corporation Punjab (TDCP) is all set to organize the most famous, full of action and adventure, mega tourism event, the 13thCholistan Desert Rally on February 15-18 in the Cholistan Desert. This was announced by TDCP in a colourful press briefing given by Senator/Chairman Task Force Cholistan, Mr. Saud Majeed. He said that, the arrangements of rally are completed and this year the drivers from other countries are expected to participate in this mega event also. Pakistani Women Drivers will take part in desert rally.
Occupying the far south of Punjab, Cholistan desert is the most picturesque desert in Pakistan. Cholistan, locally known as “Rohi” (a land of rolling sand dunes) is a continuation of the Thar Desert in Sindh and Rajhisthan desert in India. Cholistan desert is about 483 km long and 64 to 290 km wide. Out of the total area 16000 Sq Km is purely desert.
TDCP started the Cholistan Desert Rally event in the majestic desert of Cholistan during the year 2005 with a view to promote Southern Punjab as a winter tourist destination and to promote motor sports in Pakistan as well. The 13th TDCP Cholistan Desert Rally 2018 is 04 days events in which renowned drivers from all over Pakistan are participating. The rally route has been extended to more than 450kms in Cholistan Desert covering three districts i.e. Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar and Rahim Yar Khan, and also includes major forts of the desert (Dingarh Fort, Islamgarh Fort, Marrot Fort, Nawakot Fort, Moujgarh Fort, Mirgarh Fort and Jamgarh Fort.
TDCP provides you an excellent platform for unique travel experience to see Cholistan closely having rich history & culture along with sensational Jeep Rally. You may have a brilliant opportunity to visit the city of Nawabs, unique palaces and Museum at Bahawalpur. This desert tour further feature cultural performances by local artists, fireworks, overnight stays in secure desert camps, camel and jeep safari.
