Pakistan Tourism Icon | Ms. Shirin Walji Passes Away

KARACHI: It is with an extremely heavy heart and deep regret that we inform our readers and friends in travel and tourism industry about the passing of Legendary Ms. Shirin Walji in Islamabad. Ms. Waljis has been a prominent tourism personality of Pakistan and a travel tourism Pioneer.

She rendered unparallel and matchless services for travel and tourism sector of Pakistan.

Shirin Walji, Chairperson, Travel Walji’s (Pvt) Ltd., remained involved in tourism for her whole active life. She was a pioneering force, a frontline true torch bearer in developing tourism in Pakistan. Along with her late husband, the areas of Hunza, Skardu, Chitral and Swat were opened up for tourism in a commercial form due to her efforts.

She moulded Travel Walji’s into Pakistan’s leading tour operator with seven offices in Pakistan and six international offices/representations. She was co-opted on many government task forces on tourism development. She was Chairperson PATA (Pakistan) Chapter for three years and member Allied Associate Council of PATA Board. She remained President of Rawalpindi/Islamabad Skal Club for seven years and Vice-President West Asia Skal Club.  She was also Governor for South Asia (WATA).

She contributed in a big way to Promote tourism Pakistan on every national and international platform. She never missed an event inside the country or outside to promote Pakistan as a best tourism destination.
