Launching More New Routes | PIA Starts Flights to Bangkok & Kuala Lumpur

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) launched on Monday, 24 December, direct flights from Lahore to Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok. According to the airline’s spokesperson there will be twice weekly flights from Lahore to both cities.

The maiden flight, PK-896, left for the two cities in the early hours of Monday. Direct link between Lahore and Kuala Lumpur resumed after a gap of two years.

On the routes, PIA will be utilising Boeing 777 aircraft and two weekly flights will be run – one via Bangkok and the other via Kuala Lumpur. PIA President and CEO Air Marshal Arshad Malik, in his message on the commencement of flights, stated that PIA would provide direct travel access to passengers so as to minimise the problems faced by them in connecting flights.

“PIA will restart flights on those routes which are profitable for the national carrier,” he said. “The enterprise is planning to add new profitable destinations following addition of new airplanes to its fleet.”

Earlier, the airline announced plans to expand its fleet with the induction of four new aircraft that would fly on Sialkot-Barcelona and Lahore-Bangkok routes.

“The national carrier has embarked on a fleet enhancement plan and soon it will expand its network to gain access around the world,” said Malik earlier.

According to the airline’s spokesperson, from today, PIA will start the new flights from Lahore to Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok. He said that there will be twice weekly flights from Lahore to both cities.

However, the Lahore Kuala Lumpur flight also resumed its operation after two years. In addition, the Lahore Kuala Lumpur flight will stop over in Bangkok, Thailand. On the other side, another flight will operate from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to Bangkok, Thailand.
